Mobile business applications are increasingly gaining popularity in the business sector, bringing to the table the discussion about the best development process. Apperian and CITO Research have surveyed more than 300 IT and mobility professionals. According to the survey, the demand for the apps developed in-house is growing faster than for other apps across all app categories.
“Investing in internal app development helps to create a culture focused on mobile excellence. When apps are developed internally, organizations tend to invest more in the success of the app and engage in strategies that increase the adoption of those apps, like internal marketing and private app stores”, thinks Alan Murray, senior vice president of products at Apperian.
Components of Internal Business App Development
It’s not enough to get a fully functional and working app. For the app to work and bring its benefits, it is necessary to properly implement the app into the workflow by ensuring its successful adoption by the employees. You can achieve this through trainings since they reduce application deployment time and eliminate further questions and errors.
Next, you should pay a close attention to your app’s analytics. Just more than half of the respondents (51 percent) are tracking which apps are being used, while 48 percent can see who is using them, and 42 percent can see how frequently the apps are being used. The other half of the respondents said they do not have this visibility at all. However, enterprises need to have better insight into the usage of their apps since doing so will help them quickly identify problems and eliminate them, thereby improving the applications.
In brief, the development of custom applications is a complex process, requiring numerous steps. First of all the app should be carefully designed and tested multiple times via prototypes. Then the employees should be trained on how and when to use it. Last but not least, the app’s analytics should be regularly monitored, ensuring the app works well and does what it was designed for. Only when these steps are carefully followed, will custom-build mobile apps bring full advantages to the table.
