Leading App Stores Demonstrate Mobile Business Apps’ Significant Takeoff in 2014

for blogThe popularity of business mobile applications soared in 2014 both in the Apple App Store and in the Google Play. In 2015, we should expect even more applications aimed at business users.

2014 was productive for both mobile business application developers and their users. appFigures notes in its report the growing number of applications and developers in the two leading app stores. appFigures collects such data because they are offering a reporting platform to mobile app developers. It allows scanning all app stores and monitoring the apps of its customers.

Every year the number of iOS applications increases by more than 210%, and the number of developers for Apple App Store – by 175%. appFigures notes that more than 128,000 new business applications in IOS App Store were released in 2014.

Business apps for Android were not as popular in the Google Play, but it is worth noting a significant increase in these applications and their developers (220% and 180% respectively).

All these data are of great importance for enterprises since the transition of companies to business applications leads to an increase in the number of employees who use their devices for different types of work, and this contributes to the growth of labor productivity and accelerates workflow.

“The industry has matured to the point where the apps aren’t just adding tremendous value but are also enabling the controls enterprises need to manage and maintain those apps,” says Ariel Michaeli, appFigures CEO. “We believe CIOs and IT teams are now in the unique position where they can greatly empower their companies by leveraging existing apps or getting apps developed for their needs”.

appFigures’ report includes several additional indicators of app stores. The Google Play store beat out Apple’s App Store for the first year in the total number of apps, while in the 2013 report, the leader by the overall application number was Apple.

Another interesting fact from the research of appFigures is that Google Play offers apps from about 388,000 different developers, Apple – from about 282,000, and Amazon – from 48,000 developers. Also, worth noting is the growing number of namely new developers offering their applications in the Google Play.

In a nutshell, in 2014, the number of applications provided by all three stores increased by 50% year-over-year.
